In June of 1997 I went to Spain to study with Miguel Rodriguez. When I arrived to his workshop in Cordoba he was to ill to work. During this trip I was going to help him finish building 4 guitars. Since we were not able to work at that time, Miguel gave the guitar parts to my father so that I could have and study them. Ten years later, I completed those guitars. This is #1 of these 4 guitars. The soundboard of this guitar is the sister top to my father’s famed Rodriguez called “la Wonderful”. The guitar is amazing, you are sure to be very impressed!

This guitar is an outstanding Fleta. It is great looking and has the sound that made Fleta a legend. The top has had a couple small cracks expertly repaired. This Fleta was made for Pepe Sr. He picked it up himself in Barcelona in 1982. He enjoyed the guitar very much until he sold it in 1996. In 1996 he sold 2 Fleta’s (including this one) to be able to buy a magnificent 1886 Antonio de Torres. If you are looking for a Fleta, this is the guitar for you!

This incredibly rare instrument is what the Spanish guitar is all about. When you hold my father’s Ramirez and play it, you feel like you are playing a great Torres from the same era. This is the kind of guitar which has paved the way for all guitars to come. This guitar has been expertly restored by the great Swiss luthier Stefano Moccetti. The guitar is in great shape and is an important piece of guitar history. Any player or collector will be very lucky to own this beauty.

My father Pepe Romero gave this guitar to my mother the day that I was born.  He had a silver plate installed on the back of the head reading, “To my wife, thank you for my four beautiful children.  I love you, Pepe January 16, 1978.” My father brought this guitar to the hospital and played the entire Bach Partita just after I was born.   It is a great guitar and it is in fantastic condition.  I repaired two cracks on either side of the upper bout on the top.  The top on the lower bout has never cracked.  I have touched up the polish and regretted the guitar.  It has some play wear on the top as would be expected for such an old instrument.  The back has never cracked.   The sides have two small very well repaired cracks.  This is a very special guitar with a great history.

Hermann Hauser III, 1999

  • Type: Classical
  • Top: Spruce
  • Body:  European Flame Maple
  • Condition:  Mint
  • Finish: French Polish
  • Scale: 650mm
  • Nut: 52mm
  • Price: Call
This guitar was custom made for my father.  The materials were specially selected for him.  The top is a piece of German Spruce that comes from Hauser I’s very old stock of tops.  The grain is totally even throughout the top and is perfectly quarter sawn.  The maple has great even flame and is striking!  Being French polished is rare for a Hauser, it allows the guitar to sing more freely and gives the guitar a more Spanish sound than the typical lacquer finished Hauser guitars.  The tone of this guitar is very deep and warm the trebles are clean and even.  This is a fantastic guitar made by a world class builder from one of the most famous guitar families ever.

This guitar belonged to the very successful flamenco player, Manolo Franco. It is the guitar used in the video “La Guitarra Flamenca de Manolo Franco” in 1994. The guitar is a beauty. The tuners are Reishel. The guitar has some well-repaired cracks. It plays like a dream and has the ideal flamenco sound. This is a mind-blowing guitar!

Manuel Contreras II, 1997

  • Body: Rosewood
  • Condition:  Excellent
  • Finish: French Polish Top  Lacquer Body
  • Scale: 660mm
  • Nut: 54mm
  • Price: $15,000
This “doble tapa (rio)” model is dedicated on the label to my father Pepe Romero.  Contreras made this guitar form my father the same year that I started to study with him.  Contreras selected his finest woods for my father and made a superb guitar.  The tone is rich and the guitar has tons of power!  Manuel “Pablo” Contreras passed away earlier this year.  He left us at a much too young age.  it has been a devastating loss to our family and the guitar world.  Pablo was a dear friend of ours and is missed very much.

Pepe Romero, 2008

  • Type: Classical
  • Top: Cedar
  • Body: Rosewood
  • Condition: Excellent
  • Finish: French Polish
  • Scale: 650mm
  • Nut: 52mm
  • Price:  $12,000
This is one of only 2 guitars that Pepe has made with a flamed maple neck.  The neck and heal are carved from a solid block of highly flamed European maple.  The top is superb, perfectly quarter sawn and the rosewood is very straight grained.  The maple neck gives a bit more focus to the bases and an almost flamenco like attack to the trebles.  The guitar is beautiful and fantastic sounding too!  This guitar has been passed between Celin and Pepe Sr. since it was built.  The top shows only minor play wear which occurred while Celin and Pepe were concertizing with it.

I made this guitar for my cousin Lito Romero. Lito and my uncle Celin performed in concert on it. The woods are stunning. The guitar is powerful and punchy with a beautiful tone.

Manuel Contreras, 1994

  • Body:  Rosewood
  • Condition:  Excellent
  • Finish: Lacquer
  • Scale:  660 mm
  • Nut:  54mm
  • Price:  $15,000
This is one of the last guitars that came out of the Manuel Contreras workshop before his passing.  This is a great representation of the work he was able to do.  The craftsmanship is amazing and the guitar has the big Madrid school sound that made Contreras famous.  The bases are big and deep and the trebles are piercing, bright and have lots of overtones.

Antonio Marin, 1972

  • Type: Flamenco
  • Top: Spruce
  • Body: Spanish Cypress
  • Condition: Excellent
  • Finish: French Polish
  • Scale: 655mm
  • Nute: 52mm
  • Price: $6,500
This Antonio Marin is in remarkable condition.  It has had no cracks or repairs.  The cypress on the back has some figure in it as does the cedar on the neck.  The tone is very warm  and the guitar has explosive power.  It has all the magic of the 1970′s guitars.  I think it would make a great classical if the action were raised a bit.  Antonio Marin recently saw this guitar and was very impressed and happy about how it has held up over time and how great it sounds.

This flamenco guitar features a rosette inspired by Miguel Rodriguez. The pegs are geared and tune like a machine head. The guitar is a cross between 1930′s Santos Hernandez and 1960′s Miguel Rodriguez. It plays very easy and fast. The basses are warm and the trebles are clean and bright. Pepe made this guitar for his personal collection. The spruce was taken from a special tree which Edmünd Blöchinger cut himself which stood in the German Alps.

  • Top: Spruce
  • Body: Maple
  • Condition: New
  • Finish: French Polish
  • Scale: 640mm

This lovely guitar is inspired by the guitars of Antonio de Torres. Traphagen got it all right – this guitar is strong and romantic at the same time. The voices are clear and the guitar is effortless to play. The purfling around the top is very fancy and adds to the natural beauty of the wood selection. This is a fantastic and rare Traphagen.
