This is Pepe’s guitar number 207.  He built this flamenco negra for Paco de Lucia earlier this year.  This guitar came out with a super quick attack and lots of power.  Paco, pictured above with this guitar, commented that he especially liked the depth of the bases, that the touch felt great, and that it plays perfectly in tune all over the neck.

Here is a video of Pepe demonstrating this guitar before he sent it to Paco.

Miguel Rodriguez, 1969

  • Body:   Spanish Cypress
  • Condition:  Very Good
  • Finish:  French Polish

This beautiful Rodriguez has huge power and is full of overtones.  It is a very comfortable guitar.  It works equally well for classical and for flamenco but is set up as a classical guitar.  Pepe Romero replaced the top on this Rodriguez with a piece of cedar that Miguel gave him as a gift in 1997.  The rosette, bridge, body, neck, and fingerboard are all original.

In 2008 Pepe built this guitar and dedicated it to the passing of his grandfather William Eddy.  This is one of only two guitars that Pepe built as a “doble tapa” in the same style as Contreras.  The redwood top is “sinker wood” and is over one hundred years old.  The tone is bright and clear with focussed and powerful bases.

This is one of Pepe Sr.’s favorite guitars.  This Esteso will stand up to the best Santos guitars out there.  It’s basses are deep and trebles piercing.  The guitar has the magic of the Santos and Esteso guitars from that time.  Richard Brune expertly did the few repairs on it leaving it in amazing condition.

This Fleta was made for Pepe Sr. who played multiple tours on it.  He picked it up in Barcelona from Fleta and was very impressed by it’s huge power and big, warm Spanish sound.  This is a perfect concert instrument and collectors piece as well.  Sadly, Gabriel Fleta recently passed away and will be missed.

This “doble tapa (rio)” model is dedicated on the label to my father Pepe Romero.  Contreras made this guitar for my father the same year that I started to study with him.  Contreras selected his finest woods for my father and made a superb guitar.  The tone is rich and the guitar has tons of power!  Manuel “Pablo” Contreras passed away.  He left us at a much too young age.  it has been a devastating loss to our family and the guitar world.  Pablo was a dear friend of ours and is missed very much.
